KIZHATHADIYOOR CHURCH-HISTORY

Kizhathadiyoor church had its inception as the “Kurisupally” of the Cathedral of Pala and is indebted a lot to the former Bishop of Pala Diocese, Mar Joseph Pallikaparambil for his special interest in building the church. Its foundation stone was laid on May 1st, 1995 in the name of St. Joseph. Fr. George Choorakkat, the Vicar of Cathedral played a pivotal role in the construction of the church and the church was blessed on May 25th 1996. The Holy Mass and Catechism began on May 26th, Sunday which was the Pentecost day.

Fr. George Veluparambil became the first Vicar of the Kizhathadiyoor Church on March 19th, 1996. His immense abilities, ardent belief in God and hardworking nature transformed the church into a big pilgrim center. He took special initiative to start the Novena of St Jude in the church which is extremely laudable.

Fr George Elabaseril took charge as the second Vicar of Kizhathadiyoor Church on February 19th, 2000 and served the church for 9 years. The present new church and shrine of St Jude are the fruitful outcome of his tireless effort and vision. The new church was consecrated on August 31st, 2008, by Mar Joseph Pallikaparambil accompanied by Mar Joseph Kallaragatt and Mar Jacob Angadiyath. On the same day Mar Joseph Kallarangatt blessed the shrine of St Jude, who is traditionally known to be “the patron of the impossible” for the grace of God and of great relief to devotees.

Since after the construction new church and the shrine of St Jude with the sacred statue of the saint, there has been tremendous flow of masses into the church. People who come here for Holy Mass and Confession return with immense happiness, peace and satisfied for their favors fulfilled through the intercession of St. Jude. The increasing number of devotes testify that those who come to St Jude would never get deserted. A lot of pilgrims both Christians and non-Christians come here on Tuesdays for the Novena and offer rice at the cross (Arinercha) and through this offering they proclaim that they surrender their lives with all their happiness and sorrows before God through the mediation of the saint. This offering is believed to be very effective as St Jude is known to be patron lost causes and desperate situations.
